Gradis’ciutta was born when Robert Princic, having finished his studies in Oenology and Viticulture in Conegliano, in 1997 decided at the age of 20 to give a name to the work of the land that his family had carried out for generations. First his grandfather, then his father, had bought some land to produce grapes which they then sold to third parties: the company turning point was given by Robert who decided to create his own brand to tell his passion for the territory and wine. The name chosen by Robert, Gradis'ciutta, is taken from that of the locality in the heart of Collio which has been generous with excellent grapes for centuries and is closely linked to the history of his family: a clear declaration of attachment to the land, family identity and passion for viticulture. All these characteristics are tied to a double knot and on which all the company's activities are based.
The Collio, the first area of Friuli Venezia Giulia to obtain the "Denominazione di Origine Controllata" (Controlled Origin Denomination), is nestled between the Isonzo river, the Judrio river and the crown of the Julian Alps. The quality of the wines produced is the consequence of a perfect microclimate for the development of viticulture: a mild and temperate climate, thanks to the presence of slopes that develop almost continuously, presenting large surfaces facing south. Moreover, the proximity of the Prealpi Giulie constitutes a shelter from the cold winds, while the proximity of the Adriatic coast favors the summer thermal excursions.
With the 2018 vintage Gradis'ciutta winery obtained the organic certification: a great achievement for the winery as a result of the perseverance of 10 years of work which had the goal of producing wines respecting the territory and all the people involved in the care of vineyards. It is in order to concretely embrace these values that in 2008 Robert Princic decided to approach for the first time the world of organic farming, starting a process of conversion of vineyards in Collio, an area not easy for this kind of processing because of the high rainfall and where the average rainfall ranges from 1000 to 1400 mm per year (numbers very similar to Bourgogne).
Our production is composed by autochthonous varieties, such as Ribollsa Gialla, Malvasia and Friulano, as well as international ones, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
